John Illingsworth - Director

Chartered Professional Engineer, BE Civil (Hons), NZCE, MBA, MIQ

John began his career over 45 years ago as a draughtsman for the Ministry of Works and Development, at the same time studying for his New Zealand Certificate and Bachelor of Engineering at Canterbury University. Over his career he has also become a member of the Professional Engineers Institute of New Zealand (MPEINZ) as well as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPE).

Johns career early on included tunnel construction with the Ministry of Works, Company Engineer at Brian Perry Ltd and General Manager / Shareholder at Earthmovers and Whitehall Quarries. This led into many senior management positions within the construction industry at the Concrete and Infrastructure Group (a part of Fletcher Building). Whilst at Fletcher Building John held a number of General Management roles and eventually as the Chief Executive (Concrete and Infrastructure). He studied and obtained a Master of Business Administration at Monash University in Australia. Since then John has had a five-year term as an Environment Court Commissioner and gone on to establish a number of land development, construction and quarry companies within the Waikato. Companies such as Spartan Construction, Phoenix Civil, OceaNZ Blue, Riverlea Sand, Northgate Properties and Hinuera Natural Stone.

Ciaran Murphy - Director, General Manager

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, BSurv with Credit, MNZIS, CSNZ

Ciaran began his career over 15 years ago as a chainman and draftsman for a Land Development Consultancy, at which time he studies for his Bachelor of Surveying at Otago University. Over his career he has become a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (MNZIS) and is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor (LCS).

Early in his professional career Ciaran specialised in dimensional control and industrial measurement and was involved in the deformation monitoring and structural analysis of reservoir dams and water towers, the instalment of offshore oil platforms and wells, and the remote fabrication of modular gas plants.

Further to this, he has over ten years’ experience in subdivision and land development, civil engineering design, construction supervision, and project management.

Julian Thom - Director, Taupō Regional Manager

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, BSurv(Hons) First Class, NDS, MNZIS, CSNZ

Julian is an outcome focused Licensed Cadastral Surveyor with a track record of success in client management and has many professional and academic industry-related awards. He has worked in the Auckland, Gisborne, Dunedin, Tauranga and Taupō regions on a broad range of land development projects and rural subdivisions.

Julian's practical experience combined with his extensive knowledge on cadastral surveying and land tenure issues enables him to deliver innovative solutions with accuracy. Committed and enthusiastic, Julian is recognised for his effective communication, sound judgment, proven project management skills, meticulous approach, and attention to detail.

Outside of work, his love for nature and outdoor adventures takes him to the mountains, forests, and rivers of New Zealand where he enjoys tramping, mountain biking, snowboarding, running and more recently packrafting.
